Lehrvideos auf Lecture hochladen und auf WueCampus nutzen

Upload teaching videos to Lecture and use them on WueCampus

Our video server Lecture is the ideal place for your videos. In addition to better video streaming performance and statistics on video views, Lecture offers numerous tools for cutting, subtitling, and optimizing videos after upload. Moreover, unlike WueCampus, there is no strict limit on file uploads. You can find more information about Lecture here: Videostreaming - Rechenzentrum - Uni Würzburg.

Once you have uploaded a video to Lecture and it has been processed for playback, we will briefly show you here how to add it to a course.

Eine Videoseite in WueCampus erstellen
Creating a video page in WueCampus

A video page is useful if you want the focus to be entirely on the video. To create one, simply add a Text page activity, give it a meaningful title, and enter the shortcode as the only content of the page. You do not need to enter it in source code mode; it is simply pasted into the text field of your editor. You can get the shortcode for WueCampus in your video overview via the Share button and then the WueCampus tab. When you save, WueCampus recognizes that your text page is meant to be a video page, formats the video in a full-screen view, and displays a different icon for this special page in the course view.

Ein Lecture-Video in Fließtext oder andere Elemente einbetten
Embedding a Lecture video in body text or other elements

Similar to the video page, a video can also be useful in the context of your teaching materials. For this, you also only need the shortcode, which you add to your text at the position where you want the video to appear. You can get the shortcode in your video overview on Lecture via the Share button below the video. In the WueCampus tab, you can use the general shortcode or adjust the size to the exact pixel. Some of the most commonly used sizes are already predefined and can be selected from a dropdown. However, you can also change the height and width in the shortcode to suit your needs. In the editor, only the code is displayed at this position, but in the normal view the video is loaded and rendered correctly.

Automatische Vorlesungsaufzeichnungen – Muss ich hier noch etwas tun?
Automatic lecture recordings – Do I still need to do anything?

No, if you have booked a lecture recording, you do not need to do anything further on WueCampus. Everything is set up for you automatically in the correct course rooms. Lecture recordings are always created as a video page. If you would also like to use your lecture recording in a different context, you can proceed as described above under "Embedding a Lecture video in body text or other elements".

Lecture-Videos und H5P zusammen nutzen
Using Lecture videos and H5P together

Unfortunately, this is quite demanding, as you have to look at the source code of the page. There is no convenient way to embed videos via shortcodes. Instead, proceed as follows:
  1. Open your video on Lecture in full view and play it once.
  2. After it has started playing, you can pause the video.
  3. Open your browser's developer console (default key: F12 or Ctrl + Shift + I, or Cmd + Opt + I on macOS) and click the element picker in the top left corner.
  4. Use it to click once on your video.
  5. The developer console should now have jumped to the relevant place in the code. Look for a line that looks roughly like this:
    <source src="https://video.uni-wuerzburg.de/data-in-path/vod/upload_042a128699d730f.mp4" type="video/mp4">
You may need to expand a few sub-elements to find it.
  6. What matters is the URL after src=. This is the actual link to your video file on the Lecture server.
  7. Copy this link and paste it into H5P where you enter video links.
  8. H5P should then recognize the link as a video and embed it correctly.
