We use language to express our emotions, and we also emotionally consider the language we and others use. “Language, Cognition and Emotion” is a course focusing on the interactions between these three notions when communicating online and offline.

From the viewpoints of linguistics and psychological sciences, the course offers evaluations of theoretical and empirical information concerning the relationships between language, cognition and emotion. We’ll look at the broad spectrum of concepts related to emotional expression in language, perception of emotionally-charged information and effective communication with emotions in mind.

The course is based on contemporary research in linguistics, cognitive and affective sciences. We will apply this scientific knowledge to explore the daily use of language, the expression of emotions and the importance of their interconnection with cognitive processes. In addition, we will explore the use of emotions in digital communication, learn a thing or two about body language, and discuss the cultural specifics of communication involving emotions.
