Introduction and cultural difference

I am Gizelly and come from Brazil. I’ve been living in Germany for eleven years now and during this time, I’ve gotten married twice and had two kids. I also worked as an English teacher for two years at a vocational school and that’s why I have decided to get a degree in Education.

Moreover, I study Religion Education as a second school subject. Other than studying and everything that comes with marriage and motherhood, I enjoy traveling by car and motorcycle and going to concerts and art exhibitions. Lastly, I try to keep body and soul in balance, without success so far.

There is one aspect of the German culture that is shocking for me: their relationship with nudity. Although bikini bottoms in Brazil may be close to invisible, there is a huge taboo when it takes to nudity.

Every time I see adults changing clothes outdoors at a public swimming pool, I get so mad, I instinctively try to hide my children from it. The biggest problem for me is at a sauna, a place I love to go to and does so good to my body. The solution I've found is to roll myself in my sauna towel, close my eyes and enjoy the heat.

Hello Gizelly, very nice to meet you.
I can 100% relate to your issue regarding nudity, especially around your children. Even though I was born in Germany to me nudity too is a very private "subject" and not something people should be exposed to without their consent, so stumbling upon FKK beaches next to "normal" beaches in Germany has always been an interaction I was eager to avoid. And closing your eyes in the sauna is definitely the safest way to go :'D
