The bonus in the module 'Challenges of Economic Development in China' (which comprises the courses 'China's National Innovation System' and 'Challenges of Sustainable Development') consists of you writing a 1500 word essay in which you apply a theory you encounter in either of the two courses to a specific case. The benefit of the voluntary bonus is that the case and theory you select will DEFINITELY be the focus of the course's exam in which you wrote the essay (so you will be able to influence 50% of the content of the exam). Also, you will receive feedback on your writing (think of the Master thesis!).
