Using examples from Covid 19, HIV, Malaria and other epidemics of modern times this course will provide an overview, how (health) economic principles are applied to understanding the spread of diseases, the consequences and methods to overcome epidemics. The course will focus on the following topics:

1. How do diseases spread?
2. What is the consequence of an epidemic?
3. Public health response to epidemic?

4. Impact of epidemics on markets for pharmaceuticals

Students will be assigned to break-out sessions during the course to work on different assignments. The grading of this course is based on the completion of these assignments.
