The United States is home to multiple diverse music cultures. This seminar explores a selection of what might be considered traditional/folk/heritage/roots music from Native American, European American, African-American, Latinx/Chicanx, and Hawaiian cultures. In addition to becoming familiar with different musical styles, we will explore their social significance in the context of intersecting regional, racial, class, and gender dynamics.
