Die Vorschriften des Internationalen Privatrechts bestimmen das auf grenzüberschreitende Sachverhalte anwendbare Recht, etwa im Falle von Verträgen, unerlaubten Handlungen, familien- oder erbrechtlichen Streitigkeiten. Zusätzlich zu diesen speziellen, den einzelnen privatrechtlichen Rechtsgebieten zuzuordnenden Fragen deckt die Vorlesung auch allgemeine Themen ab. Ein Schwerpunkt der Veranstaltung wird dabei insbesondere auf der Vereinheitlichung des Europäischen Privatrechts, z.B. durch die Rom I- und Rom II-Verordnung, liegen.

The rules of private international law determine the law applicable to cross-border legal relations such as contracts, torts, family relations, matrimonial property or succsession. In addition to these special rules pertainting to the different areas of private law, the course also covers general questions such as the sources of Private International law, characterisation, the doctrine of renvoi etc.It places a special emphasis on the European unification of private international law, e.g. through the Rome I and Rome II regulations.

Erasmus students are welcome to attend this class, especially those who have already taken a Private International Law course in their home country. Experience in the past years has shown that a very good command of the German language is essential for success.
