Topic: Geographically Specialized Language Models

Description: The students will work on implementing geographically specialized large pretrained language models that can capture specific properties of dialects and closely related languages (e.g., variants of English -- UK, USA, India, Australia, ...; Norwegian, Swedish, Danish; Croatian, Serbian, Bosnian, Montenegrin). The project will include implementation of a web application (i.e., interface) for making predictions on geolocations (in supervised and zero-shot fashion) given dialectal language as input.

Deliverables: The project is expected to result with a platform for exploring geographically specialized language models, which is to be described in a system demonstration paper to be submitted for a top-tier NLP conference.

Topic: Deep(er) and Sustainable? Efficient Natural Language Processing

Format: Each student chooses between one of three concrete sub-topics related to computational efficiency of modern (deep) NLP models. For each topic, one or two seminal papers will be provided as the starting point for the seminar exploration

Deliverables: The students will organize their findings and present them (1) in front of the teaching staff and colleagues (15 minute presentations in the block session close to the end of the semester, exact date to be announced) and (2) in the form of a discussion paper (6-8 pages) that critically summarizes the state of the art in the subarea/topic of efficient NLP they investigated

Currently consisting of twenty-seven member states with supranational and intergovernmental features, the European Union has not only created a political and economic community, but also a single market by a system of laws which apply in all member states, guaranteeing the freedom of movement of people, goods, services, and capital.
In this course, we will look at the development of the European Union from the European Economic Community (EEC), established in 1957 as a customs union, to the introduction of the Euro as a common currency adopted by fifteen member states in 1999, to the ratification of the Lisbon Treaty in 2009 and beyond.
Topics presented include (but may not limited to) decision-making in the EU, the various EU institutions such as the Commission, the Council of the EU, the EU Parliament, the EU Central Bank etc.; immigration, foreign, and security policy; Brexit and Euroscepticism, the European Green Deal.

This is a new course on Special Relativity and Classical Field Theory for Bachelor students in Physics, Mathematical Physics and Nanostrukturtechnik. We will learn everything about relativity without gravity and understand the meaning of a field theory in the classical framework. The course provides a foundation for master courses on general relativity and quantum field theory.

In the summer semester SS22, there will be no Security of Software Systems lecture.

We will just offer an oral exam for students, who already studied the course.

Regarding the re-exam: Students, who already studied the course, can also have an oral re-exam. Please register for that manually via e-mail, to get an individual appointment for the examination.

WueCampus-Kurs für das Seminar Software Engineering (Prof. Dr. Kounev).

Die Anmeldung für das Seminar Software Engineering ist ab jetzt über diesen Kursraum (Einschreibeschlüssel: CkphtHtyFQsfAX) möglich, wobei die Themenvergabe mit Hilfe eines Bewerbungsverfahrens erfolgt.
Das heißt, falls mehrere Studierende sich für das gleiche Thema bewerben, wird Ihr Motivationsschreiben bei der Zuteilung des Themas berücksichtigt. Nach Abschluss der Bewerbungsfrist werden wir Sie über die Ergebnisse informieren (bitte kontrollieren Sie eingehende Mails an ihre Stud-Mail-Adresse).

Die endgültige Themenvergabe erfolgt dann im Rahmen der Einführungsveranstaltung, bei der Anwesenheitspflicht herrscht (Ort und Zeit werden rechtzeitig im Kursraum bekanntgegeben). Am Einführungstermin wird auch der Zeitslot für die Vorträge festgelegt, welche in mehreren Blöcken gegen Ende des jeweiligen Semesters stattfinden. Studierende, die trotz Bewerbung kein Thema bekommen haben, aber dennoch bei der Einführungsveranstaltung teilnehmen möchten, können sich vorab per Mail an Vanessa Borst wenden. Es besteht dann die Chance, Themen von Studierenden zu bekommen, die nicht erscheinen.
