What do young people who take to the streets every Friday in the name of climate protection and protestors in Hong Kong have in common? What is the difference between people who vote for the 'die Linke' and those who vote for the CDU? What effect do election posters with slogans like „In Seenot? Eher die nächste Verbrechenswelle!“ (AfD, federal election 2017) on us? Why is the vote on Trumps Impeachment splitting along party lines? In the course of this seminar we will try to explore these and other issues from our everyday political life with the help of insights from the fields of social and political psychology. The aim of the seminar is to provide an overview of current findings on topics such as political ideologies and attitudes or individual and collective political action and to apply these findings to better understand current political events.
