In satellite technology currently disruptive innovations occur by the emerging distributed, networked, smart satellite systems. In this lecture the foundations of multi-satellite systems will be addressed, including flight dynamics, configurations, control and operations. In the second part of the lecture, Dr. Paolo Ferri (ESOC Flight Director for Rosetta), will address advanced satellite operations, in particular for interplanetary missions. Kurssammanfattning

The seminar addresses example missions and crucial technologies in multi-satellite systems. Current first mega-constellations (like Starlight, OneWeb, Planet, Kuiper) raise new challenges in space technology and have mayor impact on “Internet of Things”. Future developments in satellite formations will be implemented in the next generation of these multi-satellite systems. Kurssammanfattning

Telecommunication is an inherent requirement to any satellite system – either for Telemetry, Tracking & Control of the Platform, for downlink of e.g., earth observation data, or as payload in the case of communication satellites. This lecture starts with the introduction of the theory of digital communication systems. Based on this, together with experts from DLR, then recent applications and developments of telecommunication systems for satellites are presented.
